Whistling past the graveyard

The ABC's Lateline has produced another inriguing interview, this one with the former head of the CIA's Bin Laden unit. Several critical points are made, including that the motivation for Islamist terror is indeed policy and political response, and not the "clash of cultures/religions" argument put forward by Man of Steel and others (ad nauseam and in defiance of facts). While the interviewee remains approving of lethal military force as a solution, he also echoes the "silent majority" opinion that the strategy ought to be "disengaging - not continuing to pursue policies that are the motivational factor that empowers our enemy".
