Under the blue carpet's corner A slender but documented connection between the Liberal Party and the acceptance of known fascists and war criminals from Europe post-1945 has also emerged in recent days. Historical links between Australian conservative politicians and alleged fascist 'immigrants' are one of the great 'sleeper' stories, and it is uncommon for new material to emerge. Certainly, many Nazi war criminals were presented with few obstacles to immigration during the post-war period - indeed, some later held senior positions within the Liberal Party. In this instance, the man's file was marked "not adversely recorded" with a recommendation that any investigation into him be "expunged" - though proof of his wartime activities is yet to be established.
