It must be legal

Credible reports have emerged of police joining looters in storm ravaged Louisiana. The Times-Picayune writes:

'Inside the store, one woman was stocking up on make-up. She said she took comfort in watching police load up their own carts. "It must be legal," she said. "The police are here taking stuff, too."'
Another citizen stated:
'The police got all the best stuff. They're crookeder than us'.
Police Officers claimed their radio communications have broken down and 'they had no direction from commanders' - as if direction is required for any policeman to refrain from anarchic, illegal actions. In the aftermath of the hurricane New Orleans is being called, ironically, 'downtown Baghdad' and 'Sodom and Gomorrah'.
