Politics blames ideology, ideology blames politics

Louise Barry, your courage in confronting the fear-mongering Man of Steel over his exploitation of "terror" and ignorant denials of responsibility was brilliant. The "brainwashing" is all around us, it seems.

Opinions are emerging that the Stockwell tube killing is "the first sign that the war on terrorism in the UK is getting dirty" - and the dirt may wash up on these shores yet. And while the UK media itself shows it's starting to disbelieve the Al-Qaeda fraud, even Australian conservatives are finding Man of Steel's ID card proposal "offensive". The PM's assurances that "we're not going to go to absolute extremes. We're not going to erode fundamental freedoms" is worth the same as previous "assurances" (GST, Medicare, Immigration, etc). Note the semantic dance around "absolute extremes" - implying there is some extremity to come yet. This "war" really has become a game of stalking a solution by driving the fear, as the ACT Chief Minister observes: "5 years into the war on terror we're now having bright ideas relayed back to us from the cricket at Lords".
