Looking the other way

An informed commentary on the current state of America's "secret services" describes (in passing) how organised crime is conveniently flourishing due to the redirection of investigative efforts towards "terrorism". Criminality (as opposed to Politics) is an aspect of the Iraqi "insurgency" that's under-discussed also, though if you listen carefully to a certain former captive's most recent statement, there's an unspoken acknowledgement of graft:

"I assumed that in spite of official policy, maybe they were going to come up with a little bit of money that would spring me"
"They" being the Australian government - though business has it's own ethical dilemmas.
