In coverage of a Stockholm Institute report is buried an interesting statistic: "Based on data for the past five years, Russia has overtaken the United States as the world's leading supplier of conventional weapons. Russia, the United States, Britain, France and Germany accounted for 81 per cent of all conventional weapons delivered in 2000-2004. China and India were the two main recipients of conventional arms in 2004..."Which means 4 of the 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council are the world's largest arms exporters, and the 5th member is the largest consumer of them. Doesn't that say volumes about their willingness and ability to seek peaceful outcomes? Comments:
