Kim Beazley made the speech of his life last night, attacking with uncharacteristic political intensity a federal budget crammed with "injustice of the highest order". The SMH has the full text, which deserves attention, (though curiously has prefaced it with Margo Kingston's commentary - not that there's usually anything wrong with MK's acerbic observations, but this time the Labour leader's speech merits the right to stand on its own.) It's good to finally see an opposition leader ignite some fire in the belly, ineffective as it may be long term, it's still preferable to having this continual vague drift to what is effectively a one party state halted by some resistance to those repulsive self-aggrandising pensioner-bashing thugs called "a conservative government". Expect the so-called government, with the media's help, to spend the day minimising Beazley's credibility while pretending they still have enough of their own in hand to be taken seriously for more than 3 seconds.
