Prophecy and conspiracy theory replaces news AFP is syndicating a story that presents "an interpretation of Nostradamus's prophecies" as news. Though the "prophecies" refer to Papal matters, the story does not mention the very large number of Nostradamus's prophecies that have failed to occur (Eg; there was no 1997 poison gas attack on Geneva as predicted), nor does it mention or explore the linguistic issues in interpreting such "predictions", not to mention translating them. The current interpreter makes very bald statements, such as "the next pope elected will be subsequently murdered in central Italy" which the AFP item carries as unqualified fact. According to Google's News search, this item is beginning to be carried only on a handfull of services. However, some outlets that pass as news services are also in the same vein carrying obvious commentary as facts, for example The Canada Free Press has "the United Nations feverishly working on the implementation on an environment-centered one-world religion" while inside the Vatican "politically correct legions [are] helping to advance the secular Culture of Death agenda". Note to the CFP: right-wing conspiracy theories are not news items, and barely even op-ed. At least the Pakistan Daily Times carries this material as "Infotainment". Comments:
