| | March 16, 2005 No trees, no rain, no argument Australian research in the Amazon (re-)proves a simple fact (with life or death ramifications) that I was taught in high school geography and have been repeating ever since: No trees, no rain. "A study in the Amazon found that a loss of forests meant less water evaporated back into the atmosphere, resulting in less rainfall, said Ann Henderson-Sellers, director of environment at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization".It's somewhat curious as to why a Nuclear research body is conducting the work (the focus on "heavy-water molecules" is probably a clue), but nevertheless, the findings are very welcome.
