Extremely suspicious phenomena The Algerian President seems to be joining the queue of those who wonder about the actual nature of the "global terror conspiracy" the Americans like so much to characterise to instill fear and justify repressive measures: "Terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda have given some powers a pretext to implement their plots against Islam in the name of the campaign against terrorism, Bouteflika observed. 'However, Al-Qaeda was in fact created by them and is an extremely suspicious phenomenon' he added."Update: Recent articles on Israeli "Impersonation units" and their role in "terrorism" lend weight to suspicions on the very nature of the "terror" phenomena. Findings of "systematic fraud" by the Israeli government further underline the now-entrenched and anti-democractic notion that governments have a license to decieve their population for political ends, removing any semblance of ethical behaviour or openness or accountability. One Israeli commentator places the "settlement fraud" in eloquent perspective: "The difference between the terms 'settlement' and 'outpost' will turn out to be a myth, relating more to the internal dialogue of self-deception that has been going on in Israel for years."The military "impersonation" strongly relates to this very same issue: "The problem [...] is that it's hard to put these kind of units together if your side doesn't definitively control a big chunk of territory. That's one of the main reasons the Israelis built their controversial fence along the West Bank border - to isolate potential terrorists, and allow the 'impersonators' to move in."Nothing should be seen in isolation in the current climate - it is largely media and politicians that encourage a fragmented, dissonant view, and wield their language to that end. But for instance when a "bipartisan presidential panel that [ Mr ] Bush ordered last year to assess the quality of overall intelligence" characterises US intelligence on Iran as "scandalous" in the face of ongoing efforts to depict Iran as a threat on the basis of that same "intelligence", then the manipulation effort is plain to see.
