Saved by bankruptcy?

The ABC earned its 8 cents worth yesterday: Four Corners with vital information on the ISG, torture in Irak (including putting the lie to the Defense Minister's statement to Parliament that "Australia did not interrogate prisoners"), and other political chicanery of the highest order; then came Gore Vidal on Lateline, with some uncomfortable truths about Big Media (the current state is "beyond anything Orwell dreamed of" he says), notions of democracy and dissent, the failures of the US Government, in the end thinking that "...in the long run, the world will be saved American despotism by the coming bankruptcy of the country". Vidal provides some very fine analysis and comment:

"Prime-time television is nothing but propaganda, and almost everything said contradicts itself, because they don't bother to sound logical in what they say. They say the message very loud. That is what the people around Bush have discovered: you repeat the lie, and if people look slightly doubtful, you repeat it again more loudly, and you go on and on".
Both transcripts should be considered essential reading if you missed the interviews.
