The reality of the insurgent danger

If you've ever wondered, like many people, about the apparent symmetry between "terror" and authoritarian government, then this morning I can announce "here is the reason" - and it's probably worse than our most paranoid suspicions admitted. The Moscow Times reports:

"You had to attack civilians, the people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game. The reason was quite simple: to force ... the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security.

This was the essence of Operation Gladio, a decades-long covert campaign of terrorism and deceit directed by the intelligence services of the West - against their own populations. Hundreds of innocent people were killed or maimed in terrorist attacks - on train stations, supermarkets, cafes and offices - which were then blamed on 'leftist subversives' or other political opponents."
Cryptome goes one further and prints the "Field Manual" referred to in coverage of this story, which states:
"There may be times when Host Country Governments show passivity or indecision in the face of communist subversion and according to the interpretation of the US secret services do not react with sufficient effectiveness. Most often such situations come about when the revolutionaries temporarily renounce the use of force and thus hope to gain an advantage, as the leaders of the host country wrongly consider the situation to be secure. US army intelligence must have the means of launching special operations which will convince Host Country Governments and public opinion of the reality of the insurgent danger... These special operations must remain strictly secret [...] Only those persons who are acting against the revolutionary uprising shall know of the involvement of the US Army in the internal affairs of an allied country. The fact, that the involvement of forces of the US military goes deeper shall not become known under any circumstances."
Indeed, those familiar with recent news may realise, like the Moscow Times, that "strangely enough, just as it appears that the Pentagon is establishing Gladio-style operations in Iraq (elswhere called "The Salvador Option"), there has been a sudden rash of terrorist attacks on outrageously provocative civilian targets..." - in other words, this strategy of false terror to foment demands for "security" and to destroy popular support for non-conservative movements has been and continues to be a central pillar of the US and the West's foreign and military policy. This is dangerous knowledge for dangerous times, after all, the impetus behind much of the modern era of "terrorism" is likely to be those who are profiting most. It is also salutary in the complete loss of accountability that characterises most western political-military systems, including our own. The implications of this "terror" campaign ought to be clearly understood as not just historical, but currently bringing death, torture, and despair to all of our lives. If you want to put it in an Australian context, then think about the Hilton bombing in this light. And then there's the little question of media complicity in the lies...
