Lucien Carr, the "fallen angel" of beat generation mythology, and news editor, has died of cancer at the age of 79. He introduced Allen Ginsberg to Jack Kerouac and to William Burroughs, as well as being sentenced to jail time for the manslaughter of another of their circle in a notorious and well-covered episode. His obit dated February 21 obscures the fact he died a month earlier in Washington D.C. on January 25, 2005: one of the last of a generation of bohemians and writers known as the "beats", he is nonetheless a key figure in that most modern of mythologies.
