Losing our strine

Australian Language researchers say that "The Aussie accent is losing its strine" but we are "finding our identity through a more general accent, which is neither cultivated nor broad". The theory is that the "stereotypical accent" has been "stigmatised because it sounds really ocker" - that is, it's not cool to sound broadly Aussie any more, but nor is it, apparently, to sound British or American.

A nice if unrelated headline in the SMH too: "Newsflash might include an attack of the zombies", relating to viral shenanigans in the IT world.
