Direct aid for Aceh

This is not a "normal" posting, but in present circumstances the need for direct humanitarian aid is great, and this information on the Tsunami relief for Aceh needs to be circulated widely. A correspondent writes of receiving "a long email from activist mates describing all we imagined in aceh re govt creaming off aid so if you know anyone donating can you pass on info so its not going to TNI generals..."

Nonviolence International is aware of 5 grassroots relief funds for Aceh:

1) Nonviolence International: www.nonviolenceinternational.net
2) East Timor Action Network: www.etan.org.
3) Tapol: www.tapol.org
4) Australian-based Aceh Humanitarian Fund, which distributes aid using local NGOs: Aceh Humanitarian Assistance Fund (AHAF), A/c 10096013, BSB 06 71 04, Commonwealth Bank, University of Tasmania
5) Indonesian Civil Society Coalition for the Victims of Earthquake and
Tsunami
.

If you are donating, please ensure the aid is as directly targetted as possible. After reports of fundamentalists wishing to use Aceh for "social engineering" to implement Sharia law (did they ask the Acehnese for consent? I doubt it) the more practical non-idealogical assistance, the better.
