PM on ABC radio calls it "a new development in the so-called history wars" - research that shows ancient Aboriginal Australians "were much more adept at planning and having forward thinking, that is planning land use patterns, whereas often people think of these early colonists as being sort of pushed from pillar to post by the environment". And contrary to white revisionists, also makes the point that "although Aboriginals didn't build Roman streets or pyramids, they did have a very important cultural heritage that's been left behind". Worth also noting (though not mentioned by PM) that according to authoritative archeological histories, there are at least two Aboriginal settlements with substantial numbers of stone buildings, and instances of canal and drainage works, which also give the lie to the picture of native australians which is politely put as "unsophisticated" compared to "their Northern Hemisphere counterparts".
