War on Culture

Somebody finally said it: the recently re-elected conservative extremists ran campaigns "successfully on values, on what we call the culture war". In other words, "the issue of values" is a code for war on culture that is different and challenging to the entrenched mainstream - evidenced by the recent slew of politician's pronouncements seeking to link the alternative culture that rose out of the 60's and 70's to the negative side of issues like abortion, child abuse, drug abuse, particularly where once-progressive thinking lead to gains in rights at the expense of credibility for conservatism. And so society declares war on itself for the sake of frequently arbitrary "values" that happen to increase political re-election chances. Not to mention embedding a culture of violence throughout language and society - declaring "war" on anything is not a sign of willingness to rationally, compassionately deal with issues, but is adversarial in the extreme.
