The US now has an Attorney-General that thinks the "Courts are not equipped to execute the law", and a head diplomat as Secretary of State who "often has said she has no patience for diplomacy", (and who "by her own admission Rice has delivered 15-minute nonstop scoldings to reporters about articles that displease her"). Ashcroft is also using tried and trusted Cold War pyschology in asserting "judges are jeopardizing national security by issuing rulings contradictory to President Bush's decisions on America's obligations under international treaties and agreements" - of course neglecting to mention that the often fluid operating definition of "national security" is in the hands of the President and not the Courts. [And is it not totalitarian to insist that a Leader's word is unquestionable?] Comments:
