Classic Propaganda
Cryptome is highlighting the "credibility gap" over the latest Bin Laden video hit - placing two different translations (CNN and independant) side by side to demonstrate "informative differences".
Translation is not the only issue, there are also concerns on authenticity. Reuters reported Friday that "A U.S. intelligence official told Reuters on Wednesday that the film appeared to have been released by al Qaeda's media organization and contains the logo of an al Qaeda production group. The official called the tape's content "classic al Qaeda propaganda" but said it appeared to have been edited.
However the WikiPedia on AQ is clear that "There was once a Media committee, which ran the now-defunct newspaper Nashrat al Akhbar and did public relations." Evidently that U.S. intelligence official is deliberately using out of date info about AQ: it is highly visible public domain knowledge that there is currently no AQ media organisation.
If one searches on Google with the exact phrase "al Qaeda media organization" there are no hits. Run the phrase again without quotes and one again finds very little direct reference, except prominently the Wiki item cited above which is very clear about AQ Media's non-existence.
There are contradictions raised by his healthy appearance in the tape also. Certainly the timing of the tape plays to US domestic politics very nicely, and the increasing doubts about aspects of the tape and the attendant dubious media coverage are instructive to students of black propaganda, but based on precedent the bulk of the Fox-addicted masses are unlikely to register any questions at all.
