Morphing American lies into daily news

The US Congress has been taking the 9/11 Commission findings as a pretext for basically shredding individual rights, far beyond the scope of the Commission's Report. The latest atrocious Bill to arrive there, according to Wired, will "require the State Department to intervene with foreign media outlets and foreign governments to influence media coverage". The fact that it's a "requirement" is particularly alarming as it institutionalises dishonesty, propaganda, and disinformation, and potentially and unconstitutionally destroys the notion of a "free press" if you are not American. Among other things the House Bill also will require the State Department to study the feasibility of a worldwide database tracking American citizens and foreigners "lifetime travel history". One can only marvel at the American Congress's apparently deluded impression they can pass laws that will influence how the rest of the planet will behave or authorise themselves to infringe other country's civil liberties. Nonetheless, both the US Senate and the House are scheduled to vote on the bills and amendments today. Wired is playing it cute by describing the hijacking of the 9-11 Commission findings as "morphing" when it is clearly a blatant neo-fascist agenda that characterises the current Administration. The Commission has explicitly asked many of these provisions to be removed.
