US Media admits to deceit and bias

In a rare example of candour, the Washington Post has admitted it lacked objectivity in its coverage of the Bush's campaign to go to war in Irak over false pretences. This follows an earlier mea culpa from the New York Times, which confessed that "when the stories themselves later broke apart, in many instances Times readers never found out". The Post stated that "Administration assertions were on the front page. Things that challenged the administration were on [page] 18..." and even owns up to "an attitude among editors" of "we're going to war, why do we even worry about all this contrary stuff?". However, thoughtful readers must surely be wondering, on the basis of such admissions, whether all political coverage is thus tainted, coloured, and fed to the public for consumption as "heavy-breathing headlines". And these "true confessions" have an air of damage control statements, rather than signalling a change in editorial behaviour.
