The SMH is offering a "Transcript of Saddam Hussein's proceeding" - qualified by the following introductory remarks: The following partial transcript of the hearing for Saddam Hussein, transcribed by eMediaMillWorks Inc, was taken from audio that was edited by the US military. One wonders what the rationale is for allowing blatant, probably biased censorship of "open court" proceedings, or if indeed the "transcript" has any value at all, save propaganda. At least the Herald was kind enough to point out that their report was incomplete, while still leaving any discriminating reader to wonder what and where the substance of the edits are. While an openly totalitarian regime* like Chinese Government is reasonably up-front about providing fodder in place of news: in the West, as Saddam* says, it's pure theatre. *Disclaimer: Please note there is a major semantic difference between reference and endorsement.
