This is Entertainment

A Virtual Music Machine is raising serious issues for New York Musicians. It functions as a computerized, virtual orchestra - able to replace a real orchestra, to the dissatisfaction of musicians. The VMM is touted as being able to "not only synthesize various instruments and produce musical notes, but also match tempo and other more subjective elements with a live performance". Apparently it can also control lights, sound, video and other elements. I can only wonder if the Machine is also subject to stingy, underpaying, petty venue management, arbitrary rules on noise levels, poor promotion, and drunken disinterested audiences, just like flesh musicians.
