The Bush administration offers a novel reason for denying a request seeking the contents of the Justice Department's database on foreign lobbyists: "Implementing such a request risks a crash that cannot be fixed and could result in a major loss of data, which would be devastating," wrote Thomas J. McIntyre, chief in the Justice Department's office for information requests. We are to believe then that this department does not conduct backups, does not use a stable IT platform for delivery, does not hire DBA's to ensure data quality, and has no contingency plans should data loss occur; that is, FOI requests are dangerous to the conduct of their obviously inept Systems Management. Either that, or they've improperly considered the transparency of their denials in seeking to hide the scale of influence by foreign lobbyists in the USA. Comments:
