Conservative, Obligatory Nausea

The Australian Government's electoral blackmail campaign is proving to be the most efficient method of ensuring welfare payments for children are misspent. An 80 per cent increase in poker machine takings in South Australia in the past week "is being linked with the Federal Government's child bonus that was paid last week" according to the ABC. It appears from some sources that there are also overpayments being made, due to the automated nature of the system [as with the existing Family Payment system which forces clients to estimate ahead their yearly income, resulting in unwanted debt for millions of citizens when their income is higher than anticipated, and underpayment when lower]. Buying votes with flagpoles and supporting already wealthy private schools seem to be preferred to targetting support to children and families where it is directly needed. The ideology of obligation now runs through all government funding initiatives, mandating acceptance of social engineering by penalising non-compliance. Coming from people that cynically percieve non-conservatives as "chattering classes", there seems little hope that financial support for Australian families and workers could truly consist of anything but electoral fodder. As if to emphasise the liberal proliferation of hypocrisy, ironically, while a "pokies industry insider" said he "felt nauseated" that money "designated for kids" was being gambled - he still happily pocketed it, apparently finding that moral disquiet is no match for a few dollars.
