Badlands

A Spanish man released from Camp X-ray in Cuba has told how Bruce Springsteen recordings formed part of the American torture regime:

"First I spent a month in a cell 2 metres by 2 metres that had a roof of sheet iron, with unbearable heat... All day they blared patriotic American music. It was Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen," he stated.
This is not new or unprecedented. For instance, Reuters reports that "torture lite" is a common tool in the "war against terror":

"Rock music at full blast and the smothering darkness of a hood are sometimes enough to break a will already frayed by lack of sleep. If not, the subject can be slapped and shaken senseless, just short of permanent injury.

"Honed against Arab suspects in Israel and decried widely as 'torture lite', such interrogation methods are now a prevalent part of the U.S.-led war on terror, human rights groups say."
However, to most thinking, feeling people, these techniques suffice more to undermine democracy and the "so-called international standards of human rights". Amnesty and a host of others have regularly decried such practises.

Now, do you think Bruce Springsteen, whatever you think of his records, is in the music business so that his tunes can be used to torture illegally held detainees?

Perhaps the CIA should put out a tender requirement for "Music to Torture By"...
