Is your car bugging you?

More details on how the "symbol of Kerouac-flavored freedom" has become Big Brother's latest toy. An informative and kindly reassuring article in the NY Times details how chips in cars, GPS systems, tollway payment systems, and even your tyres provide enough information to track movements and patterns as well as record your conversations.

Interestingly a comparison is made between "bugged" tires and the use of "cookies" to track web-surfing, demonstrating the growing ubiquity of involuntary, passive personal surveillance.

One wonders what other "flavours" of freedom there might be. "Orwell-flavored freedom" also sounds appropriate, don't you think?
