McShock! McHorror!

McDonalds execs have flipped their burgers over the inclusion of the term "McJob" in the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

A McJob is defined as "a low-paying job that requires little skill and provides little opportunity for advancement".

McDonald's chief executive expresses some McShock © at the "demeaning definition" - arguing that "the base for [proof of usage] is an Internet search which dug up a scattering of references from assorted academics, pundits, and random news stories over a 15-year-period."

Dictionaries are compiled using references for terms - a word must have a reference for usage before it is included. The more references, the more likely the term is to be accepted. McDonald's don't seem to grasp that even a "scattering" of references is enough to substantiate usage.

In any case, how many McSerfs have gone from hash browns to the boardroom?
