Terrorism will continue death penalty debate

A rare statement from within The System that echoes some basic humanity: "[High Court Justice Michael Kirby] said citizens of a civilised country need to realise a common bond, even with criminals. That you can love another person, even a person that's done a very wrong thing, because you realise you share with them the common phenomenon of the common existence of our species," he said. "If you ask what is the essence of human rights, I think it's love..."

This is the most humane perspective on Terrorism I have seen anywhere in the last couple of years. For a High Court Judge to be echoing these sentiments, it confirms we are Not In A Nice Place Right Now.
