Manufacturing news: a case study

Associated Press reports a story headlined "Alien Baby Found in Wyoming?" in Netscape's news portal.

The story runs that "According to a story published in The Weekly World News tabloid, local rancher Phil Merleson found a scaly skinned infant on the floor of his barn May 7 after hearing a humming sound emanating from the building."

They source a story to the most unfactual of tabloids, as is widely known, then spend the bulk of the article speaking to people who are surprised that there is no evidence of an alien baby at all. Nothing. In fact there is no evidence of Mr. Merleson either.

Find a story very unlikely to be true. Publish the reaction to it being untrue. Syndicate it as a news item. Couldn't be more simple.
