"Qld Govt offers rainforest Indigenous assurances"
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/s944458.htm

"...Indigenous interests will be protected by a unique code of conduct...Biodiscovery is just not about traditional knowledge, biodiscovery is about grinding up bark and fungi and things in the dirt into thousands of constituent compounds," he said...Traditional knowledge ought to be respected and traditional knowledge is required to be respected under our code of biotechnology practice..."

So, far northern company Eco Biotics get access to 900,000 hectares of rainforest, "traditional knowledge" gets "respected" - how? Who will patent and profit from "discoveries" made in indigenous rainforest areas is really the issue here: "respect" is a nicely vague term which implies no actual intellectual property entitlement or participation by indigenous people. Continuing the exploitation of indigenous resources and knowledge, but feeling good about it!
